Archos selling GPS accessory for 605 WiFi PMP

Archos revealed a special in-car holder for its Archos 605 WiFi portable media player line, called Archos GPS In-Car Holder and you’ll find it pricing around $130.

The Archos GPS In-Car Holder has the actual GPS functionality built into it, using the 605 WiFi as an interface for viewing maps and navigation functions. The holder connects to the car windshield and the PMP is put into the holder. Built-in line out lets you create a “full voice and video navigation system.”

Features of the Archos GPS In-Car Holder include Tele Atlas maps that cover both the U.S. and Canada, points of interest markers, automated simulation inside tunnels, lane assistance, advance street signs, fast route recalculation and planning, speed control and voice prompted direction. It is available now.

Garmin’s Nuvifone Gets Delayed ‘Til 2009

Garmin has just made a announcement stating that the much-hyped Nuvifone GPS/cellphone product is going to be delayed until the “first half of 2009.” Apparently “meeting some of the carrier specific requirements will take longer than anticipated,” so it’s going to miss its previously mentioned slot at the end of this year. Sounds like bad news for a phone that’s entering an increasingly populated multi-purpose handset market.

Are there any high-end phones these days that come without an A-GPS receiver? The Samsung BlackJack III is expected to be available in the mid of this month for price around 600,000 won for SK Telecom customers.

Samsung’s new Windows Mobile 6.1 smartphone, the BlackJack III (SCH-M480), featuring QWERTY keys is 3G HSDPA phone working in GSM networks (850/900/1800/1900 MHz). The SCH-M480 is equiped with 2 megapixel camera with VGA resolution, video support which enables video calling on the 2.6″ touchscreen display with 320×320 pixel resolution. The connection is standard: built-in Wireless LAN (802.11 b / g), Bluetooth and microSD support. From multimedia it’s: Touch Player or Windows Media Player supporting MP3, MPEG4 and WMV formats. For businessmen it brings Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook applications as well as e-mail, contacts, calendar, etc.

GPS navigation software maker ALK just introduced CoPilot LIve 7, an exclusive edition for HTC Touch Diamond.

The software comes on a DVD which automatically transfers and installs maps and software to Touch Diamond. You don’t have to do much as far telling CoPilot how to talk to the GPS receiver since it automatically detects the phone’s built-in GPS receiver.

The display is apparently also modified for Touch Diamond and you can use the wheel to zoom in and out. It is currently out in Europe for £60 for UK and Ireland maps and £90 for maps of all of Europe.

Garmin intros nuvi 500 GPS for both roads and hiking

Garmin revealed a new line of nuvi GPS units that are some of its first tailored to be used both for driving and for the outdoors. Both the US-only nuvi 500 and the North America-wide nuvi 550 have the same 3.5-inch design as many road-going nuvis and provide full street maps but also have a waterproofed touchscreen and topology maps for use either on hikes or on rivers. The interface has also been changed to add a quick toggle for the map type as well as a compass option. Beyond the outdoors features, the new line also has support for loading in photos from geocaching and photo sharing services that are tied to specific locations, and also have a historical Route 66 guide with special landmarks associated with the cross-American highway. Optional receivers provide access to either Traffic Message Channel road condition warnings or MSN Direct information about nearby gas prices and other local details.

Garmin should ship the two nuvis during the summer at $500 each for the stock 500 model as well as its 550 counterpart.

Toshiba Qosmio F55 features integrated GPS

Toshiba recently announced Qosmio F55 laptop series, usually referred to as “gaming laptop” thanks to its Intel Core 2 Duo CPU and NVIDIA GPUs. What makes Qosmio F55s a little more interesting than the rest of the laptops is that they come with built-in GPS receiver Garmin mapping software. This makes Toshiba one of the first main stream computer manufacturers to embed a GPS receiver inside a laptop. This feature was mostly offered by government military contractors which made products such as the Getac B300, GoBook MR-1, SwitchBack, XR-1, and Catcher.

Another nice feature of the Qosmio series include the face recognition software that uses the built-in webcam to allow or deny access to users.

Garmin announced a new mounting solution for nuvi 760 for various Ford vehicles in Europe which include Focus, C-Max, Kuga, Fiesta, and Transit.

The new mount makes your nuvi 760 more ‘plug-n-play’ and no longer obstructs your field of vision since it now resides on your left hand side. There’s also a premium version of this mount which includes a traffic receiver to help you avoid traffic congestion.

What’s really cool of course you no longer need to have a charger cable running through your console since it uses power from the vehicle.

Viliv has just showcased new models in the Viliv X70 series in addition to the initial model ‘Vant’. The new models are X70 Shine, X70 Express, and X70 Study. The Viliv X70’s mostly fall into personal multimedia player (PMP) category but they do have a lot more functions then just playing your music, and videos.

First off Viliv Vant and Viliv X70 Shine both have integrated GPS receiver and thus have door-to-door navigation capabilities. Viliv Vant comes in two versions, one with 30GB HDD, and another with 60GB. Viliv X70 Shine on the other hand comes with a 8GB flash disk. These two models also include Wi-Fi antenna, TPEG traffic receiver, as well as an AV in port.

Other features of Viliv X70’s include digital TV receiver, 256MB memory, 700Mhz processor, 7″ screen, all sorts of support for various media files (even PDF), and of course a web browser.

Viliv X70’s cost anywhere between 400,000KRW to 700,000 ($400 to $700). Not to be expected on the States side…

Thinkware is going to release a low-end 7-inch navigation device ‘iNAVI ES100+’ in Korea market, which will be available on July 21.

As an upgraded model of its 7-inch navigation device ‘iNAVI ES100′, the ES100+ features a high performance 700MHz CPU, 900mAH batteries with no rebooting problems and a built-in automatic rear view camera.
The ES100+ adopts the streamline design applying a two-tone color of metallic silver and starlit brown, and is equipped with an blue color LED lights.

Users could enjoy the navigation and DMB simultaneously with its Dynamic PIP(picture in picture) functionality, and they could be guided by TPEG, a real time traffic information service.
