Gps Portable System

What type of portable GPS system for it?
My husband wants a GPS system for his car for Christmas. I know nothing of these things. I saw the Tom Tom and Garmin devices, but I'm not sure what you are looking for. He just wants something basic, nothing too fancy with a gazillion features. But not the cheapest either. Suggestions? Thank you!
GPS When shopping, first things first. 1. Turn-by-turn vs. Text-to-speech. A unit that has "tour by tower "say" Turn right in 100 meters "text to speech will say the street name, turn right on Plano Parkway East." Text to speech always prevails turn after turn. 2. The maps are updated. Of course, you may find a tom-tom for $ 89, but an order model? Are the maps updated or from 2006? Note that when you buy a unit, whatever the brand, the cards are 2008 or newer. Being given that the cards are pre-loaded, set the expectation that you're more likely to update your maps once a year and costs $ 80, which of the brand. That's what companies charge mapping. 3. Traffic if you do not need it, do not get a unit at his disposal. The Traffic is a subscription costs money each year. Sometimes you find a camera with a trial which, although if you just want to check. 4. Recognition voice / bluetooth Unless you are totally all these features, do not worry 'em. They will set back a few hundred dollars … above the price of the device. 5. If all this sounds good … see a brand called Mio (Me-O). They are greatly aided GPS company in the world. All units Moov series have txt to speech are basic, easy to use, feature rich and affordable. As if this were not enough, they will recalculate a route (eg if you miss an exit) in 4 seconds or less. They are often on sale at Radio Shack. And bonus, they come with a free map of 2009. No other product can compare;) Hope this helps! Happy Mapping!
